VersiDrain 25P
VersiDrain 25P is a lightweight, cost-effective water management tray used below the growing media that functions to store and drain water and to protect the waterproofing membrane. The high water storage capacity of the cells coupled with efficient discharge
capacity ensures effective capillary irrigation,
eliminates the possibility of water-logging, reduces irrigation frequency and minimizes fertilizer runoff and usage. |

Geotextile
A needle-punch geotextile filter fabric placed
onto either VersiCell ( intensive green roofs)
or VersiDrain 25P ( extensive green roofs)
prevents fine particles in the growing media
from entering and causing clogging. A >25
mm layer of coarse washed sand is positioned
on the geotextile in intensive green roof
systems before the addition of lightweight
growing media. The geotextile also acts as a
‘capillary wick’ when positioned onto VersiDrain
25P in extensive green roofs. |

Growing Media
Lightweight Growing Media, as recommended
by the specifier, should incorporate expanded clay aggregate or vermiculite and other lightweight, high water storage capacity components such as peat moss, composted sawdust and bark fines, coco peat, washed
sand and recommended fertilizers and water retaining crystals. |
 |
 |
Suggested Performance Specification
Generally the soil should meet all the requirements of AS 4419
Landscape Soils. It is recommended to test for other nutrients
and trace elements and the opinion of a qualified soil agronomist
sought as to suitability of the levels.
Specification: Super Light Weight
This soil system is designed to be lightweight and to provide rapid
drainage and good water holding capacity. The design fully
saturated density of 800kg/m 3. Design depth is <200mm for
for Xerophytic landscapes. Unavoidably the low density requirement
necessitates the use of higher organic matter contents and some
shrinkage may occur over time.
Suggested Components
Horticultural (coarse) ashes = 30-40%
Perlite 5mm = 20-30%
Composted pine bark/peat/coconut coir = 30%
Medium Sand = 10%
Other acceptable materials include composted sawdust, vermiculite and zeolite
Suggested Performance Specification
Generally the mix must meet all the requirements of
AS 3743 – Potting Mixes for Premium Potting Mix
and the density and organic matter requirements of
AS 4419-Landscape Soils. |

Plant Species
Plant species, as recommended by the specifier, should include plant varieties selected for greening quality, adaptability to growing media, irrigation regimes and local environmental conditions. |
 |
Amenity Turf
Warm Climate: (Coastal and Northern inland NSW, Qld, NT, WA, SA, northern
VIC). A low water use stoloniferous perennial grass such as Couch (Cynodon
dactylon) would likely to be most suitable. Washed turf is the best option for
establishment as it is important not to import soil into the installation.
Cool Climate: (Southern Vic, Tas, Highlands of NSW). A Perennial Rye (Lolium
perenne) and Tall Fescue (Festuca arundinacea) mix is commonly used to provide
generally year around greening in cold climate areas. These species can brown off
during with hot dry conditions but recover rapidly with the onset of cooler weather.
May need occasional over sowing and will need regular fertilizing to maintain good
cover and wear resistance. |
